Medicare Compliance Manual

To help members tackle the often complex and ever-evolving Medicare Compliance rules, the American Optometric Association and sponsors Marchon and OfficeMate offer the only optometric specific Medicare Compliance Manual.

HIPAA Security and Privacy Compliance Manuals

The AOA HIPAA Security Regulation Compliance Manual provides an orderly step-by-step method to help optometrists ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of electronic protected health information (ePHI) in their practices as required by federal regulation. Model policies and procedures are included. Proper documentation to demonstrate compliance is emphasized.

The Privacy Compliance Manual provides reliable compliance advice, custom-tailored to the optometric practice. It features answers to many frequently asked questions and a step-by-step guide to help members comply with the often complex and confusing new federal privacy regulations. The advice comes from attorneys specializing in regulatory compliance at one of the nation's most established health law firms.

Resource Guide for Employed/Affilliated Optometrists

This Resource Guide contains valuable information about issues related to lease agreements, contract negotiations, and business management for the independent contractor, leaseholder, or franchisee. Although the scope of this Guide is limited to these topics, in some respects it may also be beneficial to doctors employed by optometric or ophthalmology practices. In addition, a variety of other AOA publications cover issues specific to practice management.

The Optometrist's Guide to Clinical Ethics

This Guide is intended to serve both as a broad discussion of the ethical issues inherent in the clinical practice of optometry and as a general reference for optometrists who seek guidance in dealing with ethical questions and conflicts in patient care. It is not meant to give "the answer" to the question of what actions to take in given ethical situations arising in clinical practice. Rather, it offers insights and a decision-making process that can guide the practitioner toward an appropriate course of action when facing an ethical issue in practice. The original motivation for this book came from the Ethics Education Program for Optometric Practitioners, which identified the need for a comprehensive text on the ethical issues of clinical optometry. Ethical concerns related to the business aspects of optometric practice, while important, are not within the intended scope of this Guide.
